How to Make a LEGO Firing Cannon

Getting yourself set up with a firing cannon made out of LEGO pieces is a pretty simple project, as well as a fun one. With some creativity and patience, you'll be shooting bricks at your foes in no time.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

  1. Barrel

    • 1

Build a 2-stud-wide base of bricks. Make this base as long as you intend the barrel to be, but at least 10 studs long.

    • 2

Place a 2-by-1-stud plate at the rear end of the base, then center 4-stud-wide plates across the top of your cannon base. If viewed from the ends, this piece should look a little like a T.

    • 3

Place two bricks with holes just behind the center of the barrel, which will serve as the axle for the cannon stand. Then build a channel of solid 1-stud-wide bricks along the edge of the base plates to form a 2-stud-wide barrel.

    • 4

Reinforce the walls with a second row of bricks: Offset the second row of bricks so that any spaces between the lower bricks are covered by the upper row. Place some bricks with side holes toward the back of the cannon, but use mostly solid bricks for the rest.

    • 5

Place flat-topped plates along the bottom of the channel, such that it covers the whole channel base. This smooth surface will let the cannon balls fly freely.

    • 6

Build the back of the cannon: Place a 2-by-1-stud brick on the back, on the thinner part of the cannon base. Place a 4-by-1-stud brick with side holes on top of that.

    • 7

Build the top of the cannon out of 4-stud plates. Cover the entire channel and the back wall.

    • 8

Make a firing pin: Use a technic rod, at least 6 studs long and an end cap with a technic slot on it. Insert this into the center hole on the rear wall of the cannon.

    • 9

Plug two technic pins into the upper row of side holes.

    • 10

Slip an elastic band through the end cap on the firing pin, and slide the ends over the two pins.

    Stand

    • 11

Place a large rotating brick on the center of a base plate.

    • 12

Make a 6-by-6-stud plate on top of this rotational brick.

    • 13

Build up a wall around the edges of this base plate. Make two layers, offsetting the corners of the second layer.

    • 14

Build the walls on two sides up by another three layers. Make them slightly triangular, growing to a near point at the top.

    • 15

Take 2-by-1-stud bricks with side holes, and place technic pins into those center holes. Plug those pins into the axle on the cannon barrel, then attach the cannon to the base.
