Instructions
Creating the housing for the Mac Mini is very simple. The dimensions of the two systems are compatible. By finding the dimensions of the Mac Mini, the number of LEGO bricks and plates can easily be found.
The Mac Mini is 6.5 inches wide by 6.5 inches deep by 2 inches high. The dimensions of a LEGO brick are 5/16 inches wide by 5/16 inches deep by 3/8 inches high, and a LEGO plate is 1/8 inch high.
Using division, the Mac Mini is 21 bricks wide by 21 bricks deep by 5 bricks and 2 plates high. Therefore, the LEGO housing should be at least 23 bricks wide by 23 bricks deep by 6 bricks and 1 plate high. However, the expansive distance bridged by the plates on the top and bottom of the Mac Mini would be better reinforced by another layer of plates on both the top and the bottom of the computer. Thus, the height would be 7 bricks.
Build the housing out of bricks of your choosing. Remember to have a 21 brick by 21 brick by 5 brick and 2 plate clear opening. Leave the back of the housing empty to accommodate the computer cords and vent.
On the front, leave a 21 brick wide, 1 plate high horizontal slot across the front of the housing, 1 brick below the top of the housing. The plate below the slot should be composed of flat plates without studs. This horizontal slot allows access to the disk drive.
After the housing is complete, add more pieces to create a unique LEGO computer. There are many possible designs, including a LEGO Apple logo or minifig face, or use your imagination to make something completely original.
