How to Build Custom Order Online LEGO Sets

LEGO sets are a long-standing tradition in toys, and the sets made by the company are always fun and well made representations of the things they're meant to be. However, LEGO doesn't have a set for everything, and some amateur designers take advantage of the toy's ability to be taken apart and remade into whatever shape they want̵2;but sharing those toys, or getting a custom set out of it was a challenge̵2;until the LEGO Factory was introduced.

Instructions

    • 1

Download and install the LEGO Builder software. Download the version that corresponds to your operating system. You can find the software under the Resources section of this article. When the installation is complete, run the program.

    • 2

Use the Digital Designer's various tools to design the set you want to build. Use any models you have built already as a guide, and make the set you want to purchase as a custom set. For help using the software, see Section 2.

    • 3

Upload the design using the Upload feature on the toolbar. This sends the design and its instructions to LEGO Factory, where you can purchase it as a custom set.

    • 4

Click the "Check Price" button to see how much your set would cost if you were to purchase it. This also has all of the tools and information you will need to actually make the purchase through the LEGO Website.

    Using the Designer Software

    • 5

Select the bricks from the brick palette. They're organized under certain categories by types of bricks, and then the specific bricks are listed out for selection.

    • 6

Move the camera around your object, making sure you see all sides of it and can place pieces in the correct spots on the model.

    • 7

Toggle the stick mode button to choose whether or not the bricks will snap together. The default option is on, but you may find it useful to turn it off while building.

    • 8

Make hinges where necessary with the hinge tool. There are a lot of situations where hinges are necessary, so attach them to your model where you need them. This is optional, depending on your model.

    • 9

Repeat sections of bricks with the clone tool. This will allow you to duplicate a brick, or several bricks, making the piece exactly the same. This is useful for legs or a symmetrical building.

    • 10

Use the move tool to make any adjustments on the pieces that you're using. If you placed it in the wrong spot, you can move it using the various selection tools.

    • 11

Color the pieces using the paint tool and the color palette. You can make transparent pieces by choosing the colors with a capital "T" in them.
