How to Make Your Own LEGO Creations & People

LEGOs are building toys that allow children to make buildings, vehicles and even people. They encourage them to use their imagination to come up with ideas for creating anything. LEGO even developed the Whole Child Development Guide, which helps designers create new LEGO toys based on the idea that children need to build to be able to grow.

  Break up the idea for your creation into chunks. Make each wall in a building individually, complete with windows and doors. Assemble the head, body, tail and legs of a dinosaur separately. Put together the sides of a car or truck and the front and back as individual parts.

  Build the support for your LEGO creation. If you build people, make sure their feet and legs are solid and balanced and can hold the rest of your person up. If you build a building or some other structure, make sure the roof can support itself without falling in. LEGO vehicles need a chassis.

  Put interior details together on the support. If you assemble a car, put the seats, dashboard and gear shift together on the chassis you already put together. Put furniture inside your building. If you are making a person or an animal, skip this step.

  Assemble the exterior details. Integrate your detailed chunks into the support system over any interior details. Snap the sides, front and back of your car together. Put the head, body, arms and legs of any people or animals together. Attach the walls of your building to the floor with the interior finished and the roof to the top.
