Toa Distinctions
There are six different types of Toa Bionicles: fire, water, ice, air, stone and rock. The Toa became Toa Nuva when each found the six individual Nuva element masks and put them on. Each mask has a different "mask power" with the ability to enhance the Toa̵7;s element strength. Bionicles, when assembled, are distinguished by their color and mask. For example, the Toa Nuva of fire is orange and red, and the mask is distinctly different from the Toa mask, and from all other Nuva elements.
Toa Nuva Assembly
Bionicle figure sets can be purchased at most stores, and come in two types of packaging: cardboard boxes and plastic cans. Sets can be purchased as individual characters or as "play themes," such as Toa undersea attack, as well as Toa terrain crawler, which can include the pieces for a Toa vehicle and added weaponry. The number of pieces with each set varies, from 73 pieces for an individual Toa Nuva character in a plastic can, to 500 or more pieces for a play theme set in the box. Each set consists of a collection of pieces for one Toa Nuva character, the warrior̵7;s armor and weapons. Toa Nuva characters that are available for construction are: Tahu the Toa Nuva of fire, Gali the Toa Nuva of water and the only female character, Lewa, the Toa Nuva of air, Pohatu the Toa Nuva of stone, Onua the Toa Nuva of earth, and Kopaka the Toa Nuva of ice. Each set is assembled piece by piece, and linked together with a series of small, black, straight pieces and round ball joint pieces, which snap into a socket. Pictorial instructions are provided with each set and each individual piece is numbered and corresponds to one another. Once a Toa Nuva set is completed, it can be combined with other sets and parts, to create other characters with different armor and weapons. Each Toa Nuva is distinct, because of their color and mask, so when sets or parts are combined, the characters can never be confused.
