Instructions to Build a LEGO Car

LEGO® cars can be made in a variety of ways and colors; you are limited only by your supply of LEGO pieces and your imagination.

Before beginning construction, secure at least four wheels and two axel pieces. You will need to determine the size of the LEGO car, how realistic you want it to look, and if there are any special detail pieces, such as a windshield, you will need to complete your project.
  1. Assembly Instructions

    • Kits for LEGO cars frequently come with a constructed base; if this base is unavailable you may form a base for your car from one or several long rectangular pieces. Depending on the style of car you are building, you may wish to have the rear of the vehicle wider than the front.

Attach the axel pieces to the base; this is where the wheels will eventually connect. Attach the LEGO steering wheel piece and ensure that there is sufficient room for a LEGO figurine to sit behind the wheel.

The most creative and fun part of the construction is adding the detail pieces to the unit. The LEGO Company has a myriad of pieces for adding details, such as grills, hoods, decorative tires, and pieces that enclose the wheel; some kits come with detail stickers such as racing stripes. When you attach the tires to the unit will depend upon your chosen style of vehicle.

Once your car is fully assembled, place a LEGO figurine behind the wheel and play with your new car. Create an exciting scene such as a LEGO city, race track, or gas station to enhance creative play.

    Tips

    • Connect LEGO pieces together securely, so that the car does not become disassembled during regular play. If the car does not roll smoothly ensure that the bricks are not in the way, and that there are no other foreign objects in the way.

Most official LEGO kits come with a booklet of instructions. If you have lost the instructions, or are trying to reconstruct a particular style of car and need more detailed design refer to LEGO.com for instructions that can be downloaded.
