Building the Car
Brainstorm some ideas for the vehicle. Will you make a police truck, or a sedan-style cruiser? Will the car be large enough to carry two policemen and arrested felons, or small enough to fit on the city roads? Use the images under Resources for more ideas.
Build the car's wheelbase. Make a plate or set of plates as long as the finished length of the car, with spaces to attach the wheels. The wheelbases generally are black.
Attach the axles or wheels to the wheelbase.
Build the front and rear bumpers, including the lights. Most cars have headlights on the front and brake lights on the back, as well as a black bumper just above ground level.
Install seats for the driver and any passengers. Put in the steering wheel and any other interior features.
Build the fenders over the wheels, and place the car doors around the seat or seats.
Build up the walls of the car, filling in any space between the doors, fenders and bumpers. Police cars are usually white with blue striping along the sides of the car. Keep this color scheme, or the one you chose, in mind when building the walls.
Add the windshield and rear window.
Build up the walls to the top of the windows and doors, making sure there's a level surface on which to install the roof.
Make a roof out of flat plates.
Build the siren and lights to attach on the roof. Use transparent red and blue pieces for the flashing lights, and a vent piece for the siren. Place them on the roof behind the point where the windshield attaches to the roof.
Install any other emergency equipment the vehicle needs. Some police cars in rural areas have winches, some have storage in the rear for weapons. If the wheels are not attached to the axles, do so now.
Put together a police officer or two. Use black pants and a police shirt, or just a blue shirt. If you have room in the car for more minifigures, build a criminal to arrest.
