How to Flood a LEGO House

If you had Lego bricks as a child, you probably built houses and towns and imagined what the lives of their inhabitants might be like. If had a particularly devious imagination, you knew that, eventually, disaster would strike. Perhaps it was an earthquake, or maybe even an alien invasion. It could have been a flood. One way or another, your Lego citizens' homes were damaged or destroyed. You can still simulate one of those not-quite-natural disasters, but without making the mess you might have caused back then.

Instructions

    • 1

Put a towel down at your workspace before building your Lego home and before flooding it. This will keep your actual house dry.

    • 2

Build a Lego house and line the corners of the floor or basement of that house with duct tape. You can build your own little house or use a kit. Whichever you choose, use duct tape to line the bottom of your house to seal the cracks in between the bricks.

    • 3

Fill a container with water. The amount of water will depend on how deep you want the flood to be and how big your house is. Use between one and two cups of water with smaller houses (houses that are 6 inches by 5 inches or so) and four to five cups of water with larger houses (houses that are over 1 foot long and wide).

    • 4

Mix a little mud or some dirt into the water to create realistic floor-water. Keep in mind that this step will make the project a little messier; skip it if you want.

    • 5

Pour the water into the house. If you properly sealed the Lego-house floor with duct tape in Step 2, the water should remain in the structure. If you see leaks, drain the house and patch up the leak with more duct tape; then repeat Steps 2 and 3.

    • 6

Continue pouring water into the house until you reach your desired floor level. Place a Lego person into the flood and use it as a gauge. Do you want the flood to only be knee-deep? Then pour the water so that the water level is at the Lego-person's knees. Do you want a flood of biblical proportions? Keep pouring water into the structure until the Lego person needs a life jacket to stay afloat.

    • 7

When your devious mind is satiated, pour the water out to drain, and wipe the house dry with a towel. The rainwaters have ceased and the sky is blue again. Your Lego denizens survived another disaster. How long until the next one?
