Your Neighborhood
Use multiple Lego City sets to re-create a few features of your local neighborhood or town. Start by sketching a basic layout concept and evaluate whether you will be purchasing any additional sets to complete your design. Lego City sets include common public service vehicles like police cars and fire trucks. For ocean-adjacent communities there are Coast Guard boats, four-wheelers and helicopters. More rural builders should use the farm sets with barns, combines and horse trailers.
Choose a thin blanket that represents the ground cover color in your area. Urban areas should use gray or black, rural use green or brown and coastal use beige or blue. Lay the blanket out on the floor and place the available sets on it according to your sketch. Assemble all the sets fully and add any other accents from your Lego collection that represent your neighborhood. As a final touch, be sure to add some Lego mini figures to represent you, your friends and family.
Street Race
Lego City offers a variety of vehicle sets that can be built for a street race. Each racer will need to choose a vehicle set to build before the race. To set up the race track, place a series of basic 4- by 4 Lego pieces 2 feet apart in a free-form connected loop around the room. No two racers will be able to occupy the same position at the same time. This is called a collision, and both racers must go back to the start. Adding loops and intersections to your track will result in more collisions and a longer game. Place any Lego City buildings you have along the race course in a few positions. Any racer landing on these positions will lose their turn for one round.
Start the competition by having all racers roll a single die to see who will go first. The winning roller will go that many positions down the track from the start. Next lowest will roll the die and move, and so on until someone completes the track. Shorter tracks may constitute a multi-lap race.
Crime and Justice
Plan and execute a jailbreak using the Lego City police station set. This fantasy game is fun when played alone or with multiple players. Build the police station and lock up some criminals in the built-in jail cells. Draw up the plans for a jailbreak including escape routes, specific times, a hideout and any outside assistance. This is a chance to incorporate other Lego City vehicles and figures you own into the action.
Turn on a flashlight and turn off the lights in the room. Start the jailbreak according to your plan and use your flashlight as a searchlight to respond to the breakout. Use police vehicles to follow the fugitives, and be creative about the details of the chase. Once back to the hideout, continue playing out a the scenario with a shootout or capture and resolution.
