Invention
According to Lego.com, Legos were invented by carpenter Ole Kirk Christiansen. The company created by this man made stepladders and stools, along with wooden toys.
Name
The name “LEGO” comes from the Danish words of “Leg” and “Godt,” meaning “play well.” It is by luck and chance that LEGO, in Latin, means “I put together.”
History
Legos started in 1932, when the business was started. The word “LEGO” was not introduced until 1934. The company is still based in Denmark.
Popularity
Legos, as a toy, have been incredibly popular across the world. Multiple companies have created toys that spin off of the Lego design, including Tyco Toys and Mega Bloks. As a little known fact, that patent for Legos has run out, meaning that other companies can legally create toys similar to Legos.
Versatility
Lego continues to change it’s product to keep up with competition. The company creates more than just toys; the company has theme parks and video games to go along with various other types of non-toy merchandise.
