How to Build a Lego Space Shuttle

As one television show so eloquently put it, space is the final frontier. What better place to let your imagination explore. Maybe that's why spaced-theme Lego sets are so popular, from classic Star Wars Legos to Mars Mission and Discovery Legos. You can use one of these kits or make your own space shuttle using Legos lying around the house. Follow these steps to build a Lego space shuttle.

Things You'll Need

  • Assorted regular size Legos, including triangular blocks
  • Different sizes of Lego cylinders
  • Lego astronaut, optional

Instructions

    • 1

Find a good base to build from. A flat 8-inch by 4-inch Lego works well.

    • 2

Attach two equal-sized triangular pieces to one end of your base piece. You don't have to use perfect triangles, but something with a point works well for a space shuttle. The points should protrude away from the base piece.

    • 3

Use any other angled pieces to build a larger triangle. Build up the sides, not the middle where your astronaut will stand. Angle the front of the ship. Decorate the area in front of the cockpit with pieces that look like controls.

    • 4

Add a 2-inch by 12-inch rectangle at the point, attaching it under the existing Legos so that you can see two rows of four circles.

    • 5

Connect a 2-inch by 4-inch rectanglular Lego in the center of the back row of the ship. Find a Lego that looks like the tail of the plane to attach to this. Lay a thin 2-inch by 6-inch Lego onto this.

    • 6

Turn your space shuttle over to attach large missile-shaped tubes on either side of the pointed end. Use extra Legos to secure these in place.

    • 7

Decorate the top of your space shuttle with thin cylinders near the cockpit for the laser guns. Other ideas include adding red round piece for flashing lights. Use your imagination to make your space shuttle unique.
