How to Make a Dinosaur Playset

Dinosaurs have been an object of interest for children for hundreds of years. If you know a child or have a child that is interested in dinosaurs, create a homemade dinosaur playset as a gift. Make several dinosaurs and props for the child to play with. Make them in a variety of colors with the help of polymer clay. Polymer clay is already colored and can be cured in a conventional oven instead of a pottery kiln.

Things You'll Need

  • Mold release spray
  • 2-part dinosaur molds
  • 2-part tree molds
  • Polymer clay
  • Wax paper
  • Cookie sheet

Instructions

    • 1

Cover a baking sheet with a sheet of wax paper and preheat your oven to the temperature indicated on the polymer clay packaging, which is usually between 250 degrees and 275 degrees.

    • 2

Spray the inside of 2-part dinosaur and 2-part tree molds with mold release spray.

    • 3

Rip small pieces of polymer clay and press them into the molds until both sides of each mold are filled. Use different colors to fill the molds. For example, fill the tree trunk portions of the molds with brown clay and the treetops with green clay.

    • 4

Press the two parts of each mold together to make both sides of each molded shape. Press them firmly so the clay sticks together.

    • 5

Open the molds and carefully pull the figures from the molds. Place them onto the wax paper covered baking sheet.

    • 6

Hand-form brown or gray rocks with your hands by rolling the clay into balls and making random indents with your fingertips. Place them onto the baking sheet with the other figures.

    • 7

Bake the clay playset for about 20 to 30 minutes, or as dictated by the clay packaging.
