How to Attach Hair to Crochet Dolls

Your crochet "wild child" doll needs a thick mop of yarn hair that moves with him. Your crochet princess needs a fall of beautiful hair that hangs straight down her back. Your crochet baby doll needs short, soft curls all over her head. Whatever type of doll you have crocheted, you can give her a yarn hairstyle that will suit her personality. Choose standard yarn for straight hair and yarn with texture for curls.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut many lengths of yarn twice as long as you want the finished hair to be. Cut the yarn all the same length for a mop-top look. Cut the yarn extra long if you wish to style the hair after it is attached.

    • 2

Stick the hook under a loop of the yarn on the surface of the doll at the hairline.

    • 3

Fold a piece of yarn in half and hook the fold with the hook.

    • 4

Pull the hook back out from under the yarn on the doll bringing the folded yarn with it. When the loop of yarn you have pulled through is 1/4-inch long, stick the crochet hook through it.

    • 5

Reach over the yarn on the surface of the doll's head and grab the two strands of the folded yarn that have not been pulled under the surface. Pull the two strands through the loop on the hook. Pull these strands until the loop of yarn is firmly knotted to the doll's head. You have attached your first two strands. The knot is similar to the one used to attach a tag with a string to a garment.

Attach yarn all over the top, sides and back of the doll's head. If desired, trim the hair into a hairstyle or tie it into pigtails or a ponytail.
