How to Make Bedroom Furniture for Dolls Out of Cardboard

Dollhouse-making is a hobby for the young and old. You can make dollhouses from specialty materials you purchase at hobbyist stores, or you can make them from materials you may already have in your home. The same goes for making dollhouse furniture. If you're just beginning this activity as a new hobby or if you are looking for an inexpensive way to spend an afternoon with your kids away from the television or Internet, you can make dollhouse furniture out of cardboard. The dimensions of these pieces depend on the size of your dollhouse.

Instructions

    • 1

Create a bed and dresser for the dollhouse. Cut a shoebox along the edges with the utility knife so you can fold the walls down. Draw the sides, footboard, headboard and bottom of the bed as well as the top, bottom and sides of the dresser with your pencil. Use your ruler to make sure all the edges are straight.

    • 2

Draw 1/4-inch wide flaps on each straight edge. The flaps will be used to join the pieces together. The bed's bottom and side edges of the side panels need to be joined to the headboard, footboard and bottom. The dresser's sides need to be attached to each other as well as its top and bottom.

    • 3

Cut the pieces out with the utility knife. Fold all the flaps toward the insides of the bed and dresser. Crease the flaps with your fingernail.

    • 4

Place the pieces onto the wallpaper while the flaps are still folded in. Trace the shapes with a pencil. Cut out the shapes on the wallpaper.

    • 5

Run the glue stick over all flaps. Join the side panels, footboard and headboard to the bottom of the bed at the flaps and the side panels to the footboard and headboard at the flaps. Join the dresser's sides, top and bottom at their flaps.

Add glue to the back of all the wallpaper shapes. Place the shapes on the bed and dresser. Draw the dresser's drawers onto the front with the felt tip marker.
