How to Make a Teddy Bear Out of Socks

Sock Teddy bears are the same size and weight as other kinds of Teddy bears that have been children's favorite toys for years. You can make a Teddy bear out of socks fairly quickly with items you probably have at home. The project requires one pair of socks. One sock is for the bear's head, body and legs. The other sock is for its arms and ears. Any color of socks will work, but colorful and patterned socks spruce up a Teddy bear. Try to match the color of thread to the color of your bear.

Instructions

    • 1

Lay one sock folded flat with its heel facing down. Cut down the middle of the part of the sock that would be against its wearer's leg. Cut until you reach the desired length for the Teddy bear's legs. Sew seams along one open end of each of the bear's legs, and fill the entire sock with stuffing.

    • 2

Decide where the bear's neck will be in the same sock. Sew a stitch around that location, and pull the thread tightly to form the neck. Knot both ends of the thread to hold it in place.

    • 3

Place nylon stocking or hosiery filled with stuffing on the bear's body using the same sock. Make the body as round as desired, and make it proportional to the rest of the Teddy bear.
Stitch the opening of the sock closed.

    • 4

Lay a second sock folded flat with its heel facing down. Cut out sections of the sock's ankle and foot to make the Teddy bear's arms. Sew all except one open end of the arms, leaving Fill both arms with stuffing until they are full. Sew the arms onto the body of the Teddy bear.

    • 5

Cut out two half-circle shapes from the second sock for the Teddy bear's ears. Fill the ears with stuffing as desired. Turn the rough edges of the ear toward the inside, and stitch them closed. Attach the ears to the Teddy bear's head.

    • 6

Sew one button on the Teddy bear for its nose. Sew a few stitches on the bear's head for its pair of eyes, attach two buttons smaller than the nose button for the Teddy bear's eyes if desired.
