Things You'll Need
Instructions
Air dry the doll's washed hair before curling it.
Cut your straws into 3-inch pieces. You'll need about 10 to 15 individual 3-inch straw pieces to work with.
Comb out your doll's washed hair to remove any tangles.
Separate a tiny, 1/2-inch section of hair. Clip back the rest of the hair with a hair clip.
Squeeze one drop of hair gel -- about the size of half a pea -- onto the 1/2-inch section of hair and comb it through.
Place a piece of perming paper under the section of hair. Smooth the hair over the perming paper, then lay a second piece of perming paper on top of the section of hair.
Align one straw piece on top of the hair section. Roll the hair into the straw toward the doll's face starting from the end of the hair to the head. Roll the straw vertically for banana curls, or roll the straw horizontally for more natural-looking curls.
Insert a straight pin through the straw roller and into the head of the doll to keep the roller secure. For doll heads that are made of hard plastic, insert bobby pins around the straws and into the roots to secure the rollers.
Repeat steps four through eight until all of the doll hair is wrapped around the straw rollers.
Pour 2 cups of water into a sauce pot and bring the water to a boil. Pour 1 cup of cold water and 1 cup of ice into a drink glass while you're waiting for the water to boil. Set the ice water aside.
Hold the doll over the edge of a sink, and pour the boiling water over the rollers for 10 seconds. Pour the ice water over the rollers immediately following the boiling water rinse.
Allow the hair to completely air dry -- depending on length, this can take up to 10 hours. Remove the straight pins or bobby pins from each roller, then unroll each straw roller from the hair. Leave the hair as is for tight curls, or you can lightly brush out the curls for large, voluminous waves.
