How to Make Pigtails on a Rag Doll With Yarn

Pigtails are one of the easiest styles for a rag doll wig. The braids of the pigtails hold the hair in place over the doll's ears, eliminating the need to sew the hair down around the edges of the doll's head. Pigtails look more natural than other wig styles because they do not have these extra seams. Choose fine yarn for natural-looking hair or thick yarn for an adorable rag doll look.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the center of the doll's head from the nape of the neck to the hairline. Draw a line this length on a sheet of paper.

    • 2

Cut pieces of yarn long enough to go over the doll's head and make a pigtail on each side. Remember, braiding the pigtails will make them shorter.

    • 3

Place the yarn over the line on the paper, perpendicular to the line, with the center of the strands on the line. Place the strands close together so that you cannot see the paper underneath.

    • 4

Sew the yarn to the paper with a straight stitch and a short stitch-length. Sew a second seam close to the first seam.

    • 5

Tear off the paper and hand sew the wig to the doll's head, with the seam forming the part. Sew along the seam.

    • 6

Gather the hair into a bunch on each side of the head and tie the bunches with yarn. Braid the pigtails if desired.
