How to Make Miniature Art

Beautiful tiny pieces of art are sold at your neighborhood post office for very reasonable prices. Add a backing and a frame to postage stamps to create framed art for your 1:12-scale dollhouse. Postage stamps are skillfully designed by artists and then carefully printed on quality paper. Some stamps are copies of famous art and some are original designs. Choose stamps that suit your room's style and era. Stamps honoring famous people can become framed portraits. Those depicting famous places can be landscapes.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the length and width of the stamp and add a 1/2 inch to each dimension.

    • 2

Cut a piece of cardboard of these dimensions, and stick the stamp to it, centering the stamp carefully.

    • 3

Cut wooden coffee stirrers the same length as the sides of the cardboard. Sand the cut edges smooth.

    • 4

Paint the wooden pieces with acrylic paint, and allow them to dry for one hour.

    • 5

Glue the long painted pieces to the long sides of the cardboard. Glue the short pieces to the short sides of the cardboard, overlapping the pieces at the corners.

    • 6

Tape a paperclip to the back of the framed picture to make a hanger.
