How to Make a Princess Doll

Every doll can become a princess. Even teddy bears and sock monkeys can be dressed in a satin gown and a crown so they can dance with the prince at the ball. Make a gown that suits your doll's style. A fashion doll would like a gown with a hot pink bodice and a white nylon net skirt. A teddy bear would prefer a skirt made of soft lavender tulle with a flowered sash.

Instructions

    • 1

Wrap ribbon around the doll under her arms to make a strapless bodice. A 2-inch-wide ribbon is the perfect size for an 11-inch fashion doll. Fold under 1/2 inch of ribbon on the back of the bodice to make a finished edge, and sew the fold down to secure the bodice. If you are dressing a stuffed animal, such as a teddy bear, you may just tie the ribbon around the animal like a sash and skip the bodice.

    • 2

Cut a rectangle of tulle or nylon net with a width equal to twice the length of the finished skirt and a length four times as long as the waist measurement of the princess. For a fashion doll, make the rectangle 10 inches wide and 12 inches long.

    • 3

Sew down the middle of the strip, lengthwise, with a needle and thread, making 1/4-inch stitches. Fold the skirt in half along the line of stitches. Pull the thread to gather the skirt to fit the waist of the doll. Sew the gathered edge to the bodice or sash around the princess's waist, distributing the gathers evenly.

    • 4

Wrap a length of rhinestone trim around the princess's head, and sew the ends together to make a crown. On a stuffed animal, you can sew a strip of trim between the ears to make a tiara.

    • 5

Add a necklace of "pearl" trim around the princess's neck.
