How to Make a Miniature Doll Evening Gown

Dress the dolls in your dollhouse for an elegant evening party. Most dollhouse dolls are made in a 1:12 scale. This means a lady doll will be about 5 inches tall. Ribbons are useful for dressing these tiny dolls because they have finished edges that eliminate the need for hems. Create a striking white dress with a full skirt and add a dramatic black shawl with a silver brooch. Dress another doll in an eye-catching creation with a deep blue skirt and a lighter blue strapless bodice.

Instructions

    • 1

Undress the doll. Wrap a 1-inch-wide ribbon around the doll under the her arms. Fold the end of the ribbon under 1/4 inch to create a finished edge. Sew the folded edge in place to make a strapless bodice.

    • 2

Cut two strips of tulle 6 inches wides and 12 inches long. Sew long stitches down the center of the strip. Fold the strip in half along the stitching and gather it to fit the doll's waist. Tie it around the doll's waist. Hand sew the edges of the skirt together in the back, if desired.

    • 3

Tie 1/8-inch-wide ribbon around the doll's waist for a sash. Tie the bow in front or in back.

    • 4

Cut a 4-inch length of 1 1/2-inch ribbon. Cut the ends at an angle. Wrap the ribbon around the doll's shoulders for a evening wrap. Make a jeweled pin by sewing a gold or silver sequin with a seed bead in the center at the spot where the ends of the shawl overlap.
