How to Repair Sasha Dolls in the US

Sasha dolls were created by Swiss artist Sasha Morgenthaler in the mid-1900s as exclusive collector dolls. In the early 1960s, she licensed the dolls to a German toy manufacturer to produce a more affordable and less fragile version of the Sasha dolls so more families could afford them and children could enjoy playing with them. The dolls contain an intricate combination of hooks and elastic strings that allow them to stand independently and be posed in many positions. There are a limited number of expert Sasha doll repairers in the United States.

Instructions

    • 1

Contact one of the major Sasha doll experts listed in the references section. Describe the problem you need repaired and ask the repair experts for an estimate. Ask them to send you an electronic or hard copy of their repair, payment and shipping policies.

    • 2

Carefully package your Sasha doll for safe shipping to the doll repair expert you select. Based on the expert's policy, ship the package via U.S. mail or one of the direct shipping companies such as Federal Express (fedex.com) or United Parcel Service (ups.com). Request official notification that the package has been delivered to the expert. If you believe the doll is valuable, insure it for loss or damage during shipping.

    • 3

Ask the doll expert to send you a cost estimate and schedule for the repairs once she has received the doll and had a chance to determine what repairs are needed. Sign any agreement or memorandum of understanding, keep a copy for yourself and return the original to the repair expert.

    • 4

Call or email the expert occasionally for a status report on the repairs. Do not call every day or be a pest, however, since any time she spends on the phone with you is time spent away from her business of repairing dolls.
