How to Bleach Doll Hair

Your child may start out only wanting a doll with dark hair. Once she has played with it for a while, she may not think her doll is quite as interesting as it once was. She may get bored of her doll's dark hair and want a new doll with light hair. Rather than spending money on purchasing a brand new doll, you can bleach the doll's hair easily.

Things You'll Need

  • Towels
  • Shampoo
  • Conditioner
  • Doll brush
  • Rubbing alcohol
  • Spray bottle
  • Yellow permanent marker

Instructions

    • 1

Remove all hair clips and rubber bands from the doll's hair. The doll's hair should be completely loose.

    • 2

Wet hair thoroughly. If your doll's body is made with fabric, cover it with multiple layers of towels so it doesn't get wet.

    • 3

Apply shampoo to the doll's hair and massage the shampoo through the hair.

    • 4

      Rinse shampoo.

    • 5

Massage conditioner into the doll's hair.

    • 6

      Rinse well.

    • 7

Put your doll in a dry place and allow the hair to dry. It may take 24 to 48 hours to dry completely.

    • 8

Fill a water bottle with rubbing alcohol.

    • 9

Saturate the doll's hair with rubbing alcohol. The alcohol will change the doll's hair to a faint gray color. Keep spraying with rubbing alcohol until the doll's entire head of hair has lightened in color.

    • 10

Allow the doll's hair to dry completely.

    • 11

Color in the doll's hair with a yellow permanent marker for blonde hair or a lighter brown color for a light brunette. Allow the marker to dry for two hours before styling the hair.
