Things You'll Need
Instructions
Decide how tall and wide the doll should be. Divide the height in half for the circular pattern. Make a pattern using the large sheet of paper. Fold the paper in half. Draw an incomplete circle along the crease, leaving approximately 1 inch of the circle out along the paper's creased edge. Cut out the circular figure while the paper is still folded.
Fold the skin-colored fabric in half. Using the marker, trace the outside of the circular paper pattern twice. The paper pattern will have a flat edge that will match up with the fold of the fabric since the paper pattern was an incomplete circle. Cut the fabric along the marker line while still folded in half. After cutting, you should have two figure-8 patterns of skin-colored fabric.
Lay one piece of skin-colored fabric flat in front of you. Using the material scraps, yarn, buttons and marker, design the first side of your flip doll. Use the matching thread and needle to sew on all of the doll's attributes. The top half of the figure-8 fabric should be used for the face and hair, and the bottom half for the clothing. Leave a 1-inch margin on the outside of the figure-8 piece of fabric. This will be used later to join the two pieces together.
Repeat Step 3 on the second piece of skin-colored fabric.
Lay one side of the doll in front of you with the face on top. Lay the second doll character on top of the first piece. The second doll's face should be opposite the first and the second doll should be placed upside down with the skin-colored material exposed.
Pin the two pieces of fabric together with sewing pins. Use the marker to outline a path to follow on the sewing machine. Sew the two pieces of fabric together three-fourths of the way, leaving part of the side open. Turn the fabric right-side out so both dolls are facing outward.
Stuff the inside of the doll with cotton or a substitute filling until desired firmness is reached. Finish sewing the doll together by either machine or hand.
