How to Change a BJD Head

A BJD is a ball-jointed doll that is kept together by wide elastic loops. Ball-jointed dolls have hard plastic round joints at the knees, torso, elbows and neck. These dolls are made for doll collectors rather than children. The dolls are created to be easily customized and changed. They can be repainted, their eye and hair color can be changed, and the skin tone and size of body features can be altered by changing the head, legs, arms and other parts.

Instructions

    • 1

Examine the elastic at the head of the doll. If needed, take notes on how the elastic was originally placed. This will be important when placing a new head on the doll. There are usually two loops of elastic used on the head of a BJD doll.

    • 2

Firmly hold the head of the doll in one hand and the body of the doll in the other. Twist the lock on the head and it should slip off revealing the elastic.

    • 3

Remove the "S" hook holding the elastic and the head to the body. The head should now be completely removed.

    • 4

Pull the elastic up and slide it onto the "S" hook of the new doll head with a restringing hook. Twist or turn the head to lock the new head into place.
