How to Clean a Sticky Magic Skin Doll

Magic Skin dolls are a line of dolls introduced to the consumers in the 1950s by the Horsman Doll Company. Edward Imeson Horsman started this company in 1865 and the Magic Skin line referred to dolls that had a one piece vinyl body. If you're in possession of a Magic Skin doll, you're lucky enough to own a classic vintage doll. However, if it's not in very good shape, cleaning the doll will be the first thing you'll need to do in the long process of restoring it.

Instructions

    • 1

Combine 1 tablespoon of non-abrasive liquid cleaner, like a dish soap, in a basin with 3 cups warm water. Swish a soft, old but clean toothbrush in the liquid to combine them well.

    • 2

Remove the doll's clothes and dip the toothbrush in the liquid again and shake it off. Scrub her body thoroughly and vigorously with the toothbrush, re-dipping it as necessary. Once you've scrubbed her entire body, allow the soap to set for 5 minutes or so.

    • 3

Dip your toothbrush in the liquid and gently scrub the doll's face, avoiding the painted areas such as the lips and eyes. Dip a cotton swab in the mixture and lightly rub it across the eyes and lips.

    • 4

Moisten a clean wash cloth in warm water and wipe down the doll, rinsing it clean. Avoid the painted areas when rinsing with this washcloth. Wet a clean cotton ball and wipe down the lips and eyes. Pat the doll dry with paper towels.
