Doll Blanket Ideas

If your child loves dolls, or you are a collector yourself, then making accessories for dolls can add to the fun of playing with them. Doll blankets are easy pieces that your little one can use to wrap up her doll in warmth or cover her doll with at night when it's bedtime. There are a number of ideas for doll blankets that can both save you money and provide for some cute accessories.
  1. Washcloth Blankets

    • Use decorative washcloths or towels as doll blankets. Instead of tossing out old washcloths you can clean them and let your child use them to wrap their dolls in. Another idea is to use fabric dye to dye washcloths various colors or tie-dye them. This is a great way to recycle old towels and washcloths and save a little money. If you buy new decorative washcloths, let your child come along to pick out her favorite or buy one with colors that match the doll's clothing.

    Pillowcase Blankets

    • Make pillowcases into doll blankets easily using sheets of thick felt or quilt batting to make cases thicker like a blanket. Measure your pillowcase and take about half an inch off the dimensions, then cut a piece of felt or batting accordingly. Slide the batting into your pillowcase and stitch up the open end of the case. If the sheet doesn't slide in easily take another half of an inch off the length and width. You could also cut the pillowcase in half for smaller dolls.

    Baby Blankets

    • Baby blankets and swaddles are other objects that can double as doll blankets. You could even use your child's old baby blanket and tell her the story of it and its meaning. Find elaborate decorative blankets at many baby clothing and supply stores or stick with basic swaddles and blankets which you can typically find in the baby section of most general stores for relatively cheap.

    Recycled Clothing Blankets

    • Take old clothing and turn it into a blanket for dolls. Cut small squares from old shirts and pants and sew them together in two equal-sized pieces, then sew felt or batting between the pieces. Another idea if you don't sew is to use old clothing made of thick fabrics, such as jackets or denim pieces, and just cut a large rectangular piece out to double as a doll blanket.

    Baby Clothing Keepsake

    • Use your little one's old baby clothes to make a blanket for her favorite baby doll. As with recycling old clothing, you can cut out small swatches from baby clothes and sew them together, then sew felt or batting between the patched together pieces. This will make for a beautiful blanket along with a meaningful keepsake your daughter can hold dear forever.
