How to Get Snarls Out of a Doll's Hair

Whether they're standard and plastic or made of porcelain, dolls are a popular toy and collectors' item. In the course of play, doll hair can tangle, which detracts from the look of the doll. But, whether it's a child's beloved toy or a collector's item you hope to restore, you can remove snarls from a doll's synthetic hair with some special tools and some patience.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove all clothes and accessories from the doll. Prop the doll up using a sturdy doll stand. Hold the stand between your knees, or set it on the floor face down. Steadying the doll will make your work easier.

    • 2

Part the doll's hair into three or four sections, securing all but one section with the hair ties. Spray the loose section lightly with the detangler, focusing on the ends of the hair. Be sure not to use too much detangler, or you'll end up with an oily doll.

    • 3

Hold the free section of hair with one hand, and begin to brush the very ends of the hair. Working from the bottom up, slowly untangle the length of the hair, taking care not to pull too roughly. If you hit a big knot, you can carefully use the metal comb to pick at it and loosen it.

Repeat the procedure with the remaining sections of the hair. Spray a little extra detangler on your hands and run it through the hair when finished.
