How to Make Frankenstein Dolls

In the original Mary Shelley story, Baron Frankenstein created an intimidating anthropoid monster that started out gentle and well-meaning, but ultimately turned on and destroyed its creator. Frankenstein's monster has appeared in many horror and comedy movies over the years, and many other sitcom, cartoon and comic characters have mimicked the monster's classic ghoulish features and awkward, hulking form. Celebrate Halloween by creating felt Frankenstein dolls to give away to trick-or-treaters and partygoers.

Instructions

    • 1

Draw a simple Frankenstein's monster shape on a piece of cardstock. A big-headed "gingerbread man" shape with a flat head will suffice. Cut out the shape to make a Frankenstein template.

    • 2

Trace two Frankenstein shapes on green felt, using your template. Cut the felt shapes out.

    • 3

Draw two identical pants shapes on a felt color of your choice: use the Frankenstein template to trace the monster from his waist down to his ankles. Cut out the pants. Use pinking shears to cut the pant cuffs for a torn appearance.

    • 4

Draw two identical shirt shapes on a felt color of your choice: use the Frankenstein template to trace the monster's upper body and arms. Cut out the shirts, using pinking shears to cut the hemlines and wrist cuffs for a torn appearance. Cut a notch at the center collar of one of the shirts.

    • 5

Draw a hair shape on a piece of black felt. Use the head of the Frankenstein template as a guide to trace a flat-topped hair shape with a widow's peak. Cut out the hair shape.

    • 6

Place the hair shape on one of the green Frankenstein cutouts. Position it so the flat top of the hair is flush with the flat top of the green cutout, and sew the hair in place with black embroidery thread. Stitch a simple mouth, eyes and stitches on the green Frankenstein head, You may alternately cut eyes out of felt and stitch them on the monster's head.

    • 7

Stitch the two green monster cutouts together with the wrong sides inside, using a blanket stitch. Leave a gap unstitched in an area that will be concealed by the shirt or pants and turn the monster inside out. Fill the monster with polyfill and sew up the remaining area.

    • 8

Stitch the two shirt pieces together, leaving the hemline, armholes and collar hole unstitched. Turn the shirt inside out when finished stitching.

    • 9

Stitch the two pants pieces together, leaving the waist and leg holes unstitched. Turn the pants inside out when finished stitching.

    • 10

      Dress your monster doll.
