Alternatives to American Girl Dolls

American Girl debuted their first catalog of dolls and accessories in 1986. They are headquartered in Middleton, Wisconsin with two warehouse operations and 560,000 square feet of distribution space. Their dolls are 18'' and are made of high quality materials that last for decades. However, that quality does not come cheap; they are priced at around $100 each. There are alternatives to the American Girl Dolls that are not as expensive.

Madame Alexander Dolls
- Madame Alexander Dolls are meticulously handmade and inspected before leaving their factory, and if there is ever a problem with your doll they have a "Doll Hospital" where you can send your doll to be fixed properly. The Favorite Friends collection is equivalent to the American Girls Dolls. They are 18'' tall and are made of the same soft skin-like material that the American Girl Dolls are made from. The difference is the price. Dolls from the Favorite Friends collection are only $44.95 each.
Götz Puppenmanufaktur International Dolls
- Götz Puppenmanufaktur International is a German doll manufacturing company that offers dolls on the the international market. It was founded in 1950 and they are known for their high quality and high durability vinyl dolls. They are soft, resilient and will last for decades to come. Götz 18'' dolls come in a variety of hair and skin colors and are sold for $69.95 each.
Carpatina Dolls
- Carpatina Dolls first opened in 1998 in New Hampshire. Though they are a newer company, they meet the same quality standards as American Girl and all of their accessories are compatible with American Girl Dolls. They offer 18'' male and female dolls for $69 each. They are vinyl and have the same features as American Girl Dolls, including the opening and closing eyes and pose able arms and legs.
Sweet Pea Girls
- Sweet Pea Girls is another manufacturer of vinyl dolls. They offer quality dolls, and a customizing option that allows you to make the perfect doll that is one-of-a-kind just for you. Custom dolls cost $80 each and stock dolls cost $70 each. Again, these dolls are equal in quality to the American Girl Dolls, and the clothes and accessories that Sweet Pea Girls sells are interchangeable with the American Girl accessories.
