How to Make Foam Body Parts

You can use craft foam to make many things, from refrigerator magnets to simple dolls. You can cut it with scissors and stitch, staple or glue it together. The flat, rubbery sheets work well for making semi-stuffed craft projects. Making body parts depends mostly upon what kind of body you want to make. Craft foam does "cute" very well, but can become elegant with a little thought and care for details.

Things You'll Need

  • Picture or pattern of the body parts

Instructions

    • 1

Draw a picture of the body or body parts you wish to make. Draw an outline of each part on a piece of paper. Cut them out and make sure they will fit together well.

    • 2

Place the paper patterns on a flat sheet of craft foam. Draw around each piece with a permanent marker. You will need to make two of each piece.

    • 3

Cut out the pieces. Stitch, staple or glue the edges together. If this will be a child's toy, it is best to sew it together. Keep wrong sides together, and use an over-hand stitch. Leave a small opening on each piece.

    • 4

Turn the parts right side out. Lightly stuff the pieces with crumbled foam pieces or fiberfill stuffing. Sew the openings shut. Depending upon the purpose of the craft foam item, you can stitch the parts together or punch holes and fasten them together with brads or yarn ties.

    • 5

Add eyes, nose, mouth and other details to your project with fabric paint.
