Things You'll Need
Instructions
Cut four pieces of clear acrylic sheet large enough to build a rectangular box that is taller than the doll is wide and can fit around the doll. Secure the rectangle with hot glue.
Cut a piece of clear acrylic sheet several inches larger than the rectangle and secure the rectangle atop it with a light application of hot glue. Use just enough hot glue for a watertight seal, as you will need to pry this section apart.
Fill the bottom half of the box with nondrying clay, ensuring that the clay fully covers the perimeter of the rectangle.
Press the vinyl doll into the clay with a piece of the doll touching one of the edges of the box. Feet are usually the best part for placing on the edge.
Press the eraser of a pencil 1/4 inch into the clay at all four corners. This will create keys for aligning your mold.
Pour rice into the mold until it completely covers the doll, and then pour the rice into a measuring cup to determine how much urethane is needed for the mold.
Spray mold release into the box.
Mix your urethane according to the packaging on the urethane product you have purchased, as recipes vary by brand, and then pour the urethane into the mold. Do not pour the urethane directly on the doll; instead, pour it into a corner and let it flow over the doll.
Pry the bottom section off of the rectangle with a putty knife after 24 hours, and then remove the clay from the rectangle.
Repeat the rice measuring and subsequent urethane mixing and pouring, with the first urethane pouring serving as the bottom of the mold, then leave to dry for 24 hours. This creates the second half of the urethane mold, which is then held together with the first to create a hollow cavity in the shape of the doll.
Pry the pieces of clear acrylic sheet apart, if needed, to release the mold from the box, and then open the mold and take out the doll.
