How to Add a New Wig on My Twinn Doll

The My Twinn doll company was founded in 1993. According to Logan's Ladies website, Dr. John Kurdika began developing dolls that looked like their child owners after working with children in emergency rooms. The My Twinn company continues to flourish today and provides doll repair services for its products in addition to selling custom-made dolls. You can make minor changes by yourself, such as adding a new wig, without incurring costly company manufactured repairs through the My Twinn doll hospital.

Instructions

  1. Removing the My Twinn Doll Wig

    • 1

Turn the back of the doll's head toward you. Grasp the wig cap at the base of the neck. Pull the wig cap up over the head. A wig cap is the fabric "hat" to which the hair is sewn. According to Just Magic Dolls, don't pull the wig by the hair.

    • 2

Tug upward, wiggling the wig cap to loosen the wig glue. Most wigs will come free with force, but if the wig is still attached, proceed to Step 3.

    • 3

Slip a metal teaspoon or baby spoon beneath the cap. According to Just Magic Dolls, direct the spoon's bowl against the head. Push the spoon under the cap, up over the head, to break the old glue. Continue moving the spoon around. Tug at the cap to see if it will come off. If it is still attached, proceed to Step 4.

    • 4

Aim a hair dryer, on a low setting, under the cap to heat the glue. Simultaneously pull the cap over the head attempting to remove it. If heat fails to dislodge the adhesive, proceed to Step 5.

    • 5

Dip cotton swabs into non-acetone nail polish remover. Slide the saturated swabs under the wig cap along the doll's head. Target noticeable glue. Simultaneously pull the cap away as you apply the remover. According to Just Magic Dolls, this is necessary when the wig has been applied with super glue.

Measuring for a New Doll Wig

    • 6

Wrap a tape measure around the head behind the ears and over the forehead.

    • 7

Note the diameter of the My Twinn doll's head.

    • 8

Purchase a new wig in this diameter. Wigs can be purchased online, at doll shows, in catalogs, and at craft, hobby and doll stores. My Twinn dolls require a 14-15-inch wig size. According to Just Magic Dolls, expect to pay at least $25 for a synthetic doll wig in this size.

Attaching a Wig to A My Twinn Doll

    • 9

Put the wig onto the doll to position as desired. Remove the wig. Turn the wig cap inside out.

    • 10

Draw rings of glue along the interior in multiple rows. Use tacky or white school glue, or use rubber cement. Rubber cement works best if you change your wigs often. Purchase glues at craft, hobby, grocery and discount stores.

    • 11

Align the back of the wig with the back of the My Twinn doll's head and carefully turn the wig right side out on the doll's head. Press the wig cap firmly against the head. Wipe away any excess glue seeping from the wig cap. Allow glue to dry.

    • 12

Cut or style the wig to your preference.
