Size It Well
Build your dollhouse so that it is a good size for both your daughter and the room that you will store it in. If your daughter is very petite, you can adjust the measurements to make it comfortable for her and if she is on the taller side and you have the space, you can add rooms or even an extra level for her to enjoy.
Consider the Dolls
When deciding the final measurements for the rooms, take the dolls your daughter prefers into consideration as well. If they are very small, you might want to build a smaller house, while if they are large, they might need a bigger place. Ask her to show you which dolls she has in mind before you do anything irreversible.
Make a Stand
As long as you already have your tools out, you should build a stand for the house to sit on. While younger children won't mind curling up on the floor to peer inside the house, it is easier for older children to be able to walk around and stand while playing with the house. This is also a great way to display the masterpiece that you have worked so hard on to put together.
Use Materials You Already Have
When it comes to furnishing and decorating the dollhouse, you don't have to spend a fortune on materials. You can reuse old fabric from around the house, such as leftover carpet pieces, old upholstery and even old clothing that you won't mind cutting up.
Think Mini
Some extra ribbon lying around the house can be a beautiful carpet runner for the staircase and a small white doily can make a lace rug for the living room. Any small pieces of "trash" that you have might be the perfect accessory for a miniature house.
