How to Make Minatures for Doll Houses

Make miniatures out of everyday items with your older children, and use these pieces in a modern or traditional style dollhouse. Set aside a drawer or a small box in your home for collecting small everyday items, and use them to make dollhouse furniture and accessories. Then you and your child can decorate your dollhouse on the next rainy day.

Instructions

    • 1

Make a bed by gluing the two jewelry box lids together side-by-side, with the bottoms of the boxes up. Glue the bottoms upside down on top of the tops. Cut 1/2 inch off the edge of the yogurt lid and glue it on the end of the bed as a headboard. Glue a lollipop stick on each side of the headboard for bedposts. The headboard and bedposts will sit on the ledge where the box bottom is narrower than the box top. Top each stick with a bead held on with a white ball-head pin.

Make a small table by gluing four pony beads to the underside of a juice bottle top. Glue lollipop sticks into the beads. Add bead feet held on with white ball-head pins.

    • 3

Make a bookshelf from a rectangular jewelry box. Stand the box on its narrow side. Glue on four pony bead feet. Cut two shelves from the box top. Line the ends and back edge of the shelves with glue and slide them in place.

Spray paint a mini loaf pan white for a tub. Add jewelry fittings for legs and plumbing. Cut a bath mat from terry cloth. Cut a small sponge out of a larger sponge. A rectangular candy makes a good bar of soap. If desired add broken styrofoam "bubbles."

Make a pie by lining a bottle cap pie pan with a beige felt "crust." Add a bead filling and a top crust. Make a cake by cutting a circle from a compressed sponge. Wet the sponge to make the "cake" rise. "Frost" the outside with paint and add a layer of "filling" with a marker. Serve it on a button platter.
