How to Wash an American Girl Doll's Hair

American Girl dolls have been around for little girls all over the country since 1986. Today, there are 10 different American Girls dolls and five "best friend" dolls. After playing with your American Girl Doll frequently, you&'ll notice that her hair will become dirty and knotted. Because their hair is a wig--not rooted like other dolls--the hair will be damaged if you wash it with shampoo and conditioner.

Instructions

    • 1

Fill a spray bottle with cool water.

    • 2

Spritz your American Girl doll&'s hair with the cool water. Use a wire brush to remove any dirt, debris or knots. For hair that has something in it other than dirt and debris--like mud, food, pop or juice--soak the hair in cold water, then use the wire brush to brush the hair out.

    • 3

Remove more difficult knots by lightly spraying the hair with a detangle spray. Brush out the hair.

    • 4

Allow the hair to dry just until it&'s damp. Use doll-sized plastic rollers to set the hair into curls, put the hair into tight braids to create a wavy look or leave the hair down to dry.
