How to Build a 1/6 Playscale Dollhouse

Dolly and her friends will entertain in style in this lavish 1/6-playscale townhouse created from a dresser bureau. This project requires little in the way of carpentry skills, and utilizes the dresser's disassembled drawers for lumber. Decorate the completed dollhouse with purchased dollhouse furniture or challenge children to create their own sofas, chairs, tables and beds from cardboard, fabric scraps and glue. Budding interior decorators will enjoy this small-scale décor challenge.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove all the drawers from the dresser. Remove all sides from the drawers with the rubber mallet, leaving the bottoms of the drawers to create different floors in the dollhouse. Sand all edges of the drawer bottoms smooth.

    • 2

Slide the drawer bottoms back into the dresser. Glue carpet or vinyl tile scraps to the bottoms to create floors.

    • 3

Create walls between dollhouse rooms by cutting the cardboard shirt and tie boxes to fit and covering them with wallpaper scraps. Glue the walls to the floor with the hot glue gun.

    • 4

Create a dollhouse façade on the back of the dresser bureau. Paint on a door and windows.

    • 5

Build a roof from the discarded drawer sides by overlapping the short sides and nailing them together. Attach roof shingle scraps with a hot glue gun.
