Things You'll Need
Instructions
Determine the general size and shape of the polymer doll you would like to make. If necessary, make a few in-scale sketches.
Make a wire skeleton, or armature, for your doll. Cut pieces of wire that are more than twice as long as the limbs and combined torso and head, then wind the limb pieces around the torso piece with a pair of pliers. Cut away any excess wire.
Add aluminum foil to your wire armature to fill in some of the bulk of the body shape. Wrap aluminum foil around the top of the torso wire for the head and add it to the body and limbs.
Coat the entire armature with polyvinyl glue. This will help the armature bond with the polymer clay. Let the glue dry completely.
Cover your armature with a polymer clay found at your local crafts store. Build up the overall shape of the head, body and limbs.
Add general details to the doll, once you have the basic proportions you like. Roll up tiny pieces of clay and add them to areas that need bulk, and scoop out areas that need depth.
Sculpt the fine details into the doll's face and body. Create the facial features, fingers, toes and any other small elements you would like your doll to have.
Place the doll onto a baking sheet. Bake the doll in the oven, using the baking time and temperature recommended on your clay's packaging.
Remove the doll from the oven when it is finished baking, and let it cool. When it is cool to the touch, lightly sand the doll all over. This will remove any undesirable surface textures.
Paint the polymer doll with acrylic paints until you have the desired look.
