Things You'll Need
Instructions
Brush the doll's hair with a paddle brush. This will remove any snarls and kinks that may impede upon the dyeing process.
Wet the doll's hair with warm water. Wash it out with a few squirts of liquid dish soap. Rinse the soap from the hair.
Pour two to three cups of water into a large stainless steel pot. The amount of water used will depend upon the length of the doll's hair, the size of the doll and the intensity of color desired. Bring the water to a boil and then to a low simmer.
Add the desired amount of fabric dye to the water. A smaller amount of dye will yield a lighter effect while a larger amount will cause a darker color. Turn off the heat and stir the water until the dye is completely dissolved.
With gloved hands, dip the doll's hair into the dye. Allow the dye to sit for no longer than five minutes. The amount of time the doll's hair remains in the water depends upon the intensity of color sought.
Carry the doll over to a sink. Place a bowl or an old towel under the doll's hair so the dye does not drip on, and stain, the floor.
Rinse the doll's hair until the water runs clear. Later a few ounces of liquid dish soap into the hair and rinse again.
Place the doll with its hair spread out onto a towel and allow the hair to dry completely, which should take a few hours.
Style the doll's hair as desired.
