How to Get Permanent Marker Off a Doll's Face

The trouble with permanent markers is that their ink is designed to be just that--permanent. That's great if you want to preserve something, like an autograph, but then the kids get their hands on permanent markers and start drawing on things they shouldn't. Cleaning permanent markers off a doll's face can be tricky because the surface is usually porous, but there are methods you can use to safely clean the face.

Things You'll Need

  • Mr. Clean Magic Eraser
  • Cotton balls
  • Rubbing alcohol
  • Toothpaste
  • Acetone nail polish remover

Instructions

    • 1

Wet a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser, and gently scrub the permanent marker stain on your doll's face. Water activates micro-scrubbers inside the eraser pad that seep into porous surfaces and help lift out dirt and stains.

    • 2

Dab a cotton ball in rubbing alcohol, and rub it over the stain. Alcohol may be powerful enough to break up the marker and clean it from the surface.

    • 3

Soak a cotton ball with acetone nail polish remover, and rub it over the stain. Do not get acetone on painted surfaces on your doll's face, such as eyes or lips; acetone may remove the paint.

    • 4

Squirt a dollop of toothpaste onto the stain, and gently brush with an old toothbrush dabbed in water. Toothpaste with baking soda and peroxide may provide even quicker results.

    • 5

Squeeze a spot of acne face wash containing benzoil peroxide onto a cotton ball and wet it. Rub the face wash over your doll's facial surface to break up the marker stain.
