How to Color Doll Hair

Coloring doll hair may seem as easy as using plain old hair dye, but human hair dye does not work on the doll's synthetic fiber hair. While you can color your doll's hair using fabric dye, the easier method is to create your own dye with acrylic paint. The process takes some time and patience, so don't rush through it. Make sure that your doll's hair is clean and free from any product before you color it.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Wrap the doll's entire body in plastic wrap to protect it from the paint. Comb the doll's hair thoroughly to make sure there aren't any snags or tangles.

    • 2

In a paper cup, add about a tablespoon of acrylic paint. Thin the paint with water to the consistency of ink. Apply a small amount of the dye to the doll's hair and comb it through. Continue applying until the doll's hair is completely colored. Continue to comb for 15 minutes.

    • 3

Hang the doll upside down to dry. Leave to dry for three to four days, but occasionally run the comb through the hair so that it does not stick together or stiffen. Remove any stray dye from the doll's face with a cotton ball soaked with non-acetone nail polish remover.
