How to Remove Paint From a Composition Doll

That quick paint touch-up on Great Aunt Sally's composition doll didn't go exactly as you planned. Those simple black squiggles that should have turned out as eyebrows, well, didn't. Removing paint from a composition doll, whether still wet or dry, can be done with a new product intended for household cleaning. Mr. Clean Magic Erasers and many grocery store brand equivalents are revolutionary in cleaning paint from old dolls without the use of chemicals that might dissolve the composition material. Use Craze Control to rejuvenate the cracked surface beneath the removed paint.

Instructions

    • 1

Use a ½-1-inch cut strip of a magic eraser, slightly wet, and scrub the paint area. If the paint is still wet, it should wipe off quickly. If the paint is old or dry, you may need to scrub in concentrated tight circles to work the paint from the surface. Be careful not to rub the paint off any surrounding details or areas.

Use the towel corner to wipe off any water dribbles. Composition dolls shouldn't get too wet as they are made of materials such as wood shavings, wood dust and adhesives. Continue scrubbing until the paint has been removed. Magic erasers will strip the paint down to the surface of the composition material if desired. If your intention is to repaint the doll, this is a quick and easy way to remove the paint without the use of chemicals.

    • 3

Dry off the area, thoroughly, where the paint has been removed.

    • 4

Use Craze Control, dabbed on an old rag, to rub into the cracked surface of the composition under the area where the paint was removed. Craze Control restores the smooth surface allowing you to repaint on a fresh area and fills in any crevices or imperfections caused by age or damage.
