"Lap sitter" Baby Ann
The Baby Ann doll made in 1974 became known as a "lap sitter" doll. This doll was designed simply, with her body and arms made of vinyl or flexible plastic and her torso and legs made of stuffed cloth. The first Baby Anns were designed with unremovable pajamas that were found underneath the outer clothing.
Baby Ann and Her Care Set
The Baby Ann doll released in 1981 had arms, legs and a head made of vinyl and only a soft cloth torso. This doll's mouth was designed to make it easier to pretend-feed the doll with toy spoons and bottles. This Baby Ann doll came with numerous accessories for play.
Clothing
Both Baby Ann dolls came with Velcro-fastened clothing, making them easily removed by small girls. The first Baby Ann came with a single white dress with red flowers and trimmings. The second Baby Ann came with a decorative blue and white nightgown and matching blue and white pants; underneath the cloth torso was a white cloth. A pattern for making additional clothing for Baby Ann was also included.
Infant Seat
The Baby Ann of 1981 came with an infant seat of fabric that matched her blue and white nightgown. The infant seat was made of a plastic frame with a foam filled seat, and an adjustable back piece that included a safety belt with fastenings of Velcro.
Feeding
To pretend to feed the second Baby Ann, a toy bottle, bowl and spoon were included as accessories. The bottle was a small, simple white cylinder with an attached pink nipple to fit inside of the doll's mouth. The bowl and spoon were of a peach color with matching designs, and the bowl included a holding slot for the white bottle. Baby Ann also came with a small fabric tote bag that matched her outfit and seat and was designed to carry her eating accessories.
