Things You'll Need
Instructions
Lay the overalls out on a flat surface. Fold the top portions of the overalls back to the waistband.
Position the open flannel shirt into the overalls as if they are being worn. Pin the tail of the shirt to the waistband of the overalls in several places.
Sew the shirt to the waistband of the overalls on the sewing machine, leaving the very front of the shirt unstitched so that it can be buttoned up.
Completely button up the flannel shirt, including the wrist cuffs if they have buttons.
Use rubber bands to tie off the bottom of the overall legs and the sleeves of the shirt.
Stuff old, clean rags or outgrown clothing into the overalls and shirt to completely fill out the doll's body.
Lay out the baby washcloths on top of one another with the right sides facing in.
Sew a seam into the two washcloths that binds them together, leaving a 3-inch section open and not sewn. Turn the washcloths right side out.
Stuff the washcloths with rags until you have a rounded head shape.
Sew the open end of the washcloth head into the neck of the flannel shirt.
Cut four 5-foot lengths of yellow or gold yarn.
Wrap each 5-foot length of yarn around a 3-inch-wide piece of cardboard.
Undo one of the rubber bands from a leg opening of the overalls.
Slide the yarn from the cardboard, and insert one end of the yarn wrap about 1 inch into the open leg of the overalls. Sew the leg together using short stitches. Make a second seam to ensure the yarn is held securely in place.
Repeat the yarn steps for the other overall leg and the shirtsleeves.
Use your fingers to push in the top corner of the scarecrow head. Sew the last sections of wrapped yarn into this corner for hair on the scarecrow.
Use fabric paints to create the eyes, nose and mouth of your scarecrow doll.
