How to Care for Doll Hair

Whether you have an antique doll or dolls that your children play with, doll hair needs care and maintenance from time to time. Some people enjoy styling doll hair and experimenting with various curls and hair styles. Little girls often enjoy brushing and combing the hair of their dolls.

There are different kinds of doll hair to be aware of as well. Some doll hair is rooted into the doll scalp, and other dolls have wigs. Some doll hair is made from synthetic material, and other dolls actually have hair made from human hair. Whatever the kind of doll hair your dolls have, most of these methods can be used to help care for and style doll hair.

Instructions

    • 1

Saturate the doll's hair lightly with water. Carefully spray cleaner onto the hair a few times and work it into the hair as you would shampoo. Rinse thoroughly with warm water and dry the doll hair with a towel. Be careful not to loosen any glue with too much water. If any glued areas become loose, you can re-glue them with a hot glue gun after drying.

    • 2

Apply a hair de-tangling spray carefully after towel drying. Comb the de-tangling spray through thoroughly.

    • 3

Apply the automotive vinyl spray protectant to doll hair that is very frizzy and damaged. After applying the spray, place a plastic bag onto the doll's head and seal the bag onto the head with an elastic hair band around the doll's neck. Allow the doll to sit with this spray on the hair for 48 hours. After 48 hours, remove the bag and allow the hair to air dry completely. Once dry, rinse the hair in warm water.

Place the knee-high nylon onto the wet doll hair and allow it to dry completely.

    • 5

Comb through the hair after it is dried. If desired, you can set the hair in small curlers. Allow the curlers to set in the hair for several hours and check if the doll hair has set. Remove the curlers if you're satisfied.
