One of Fisher-Price's most popular dollhouses is the Loving Family Dollhouse. For younger children, the toymaker offers My First Doll House. Fisher-Price also has the Dora the Explorer Magical Welcome Dollhouse. Except for the Dora the Explorer house, each dollhouse features toy characters that are either Caucasian or African-American. The dollhouses range in price from $30 to $90 depending on the retailer.
Features
The Loving Family Dollhouse is one of the most popular selections in the Fisher-Price line of dollhouses. The house opens up from the back and features 8 rooms, including a bedroom, bathroom, kitchen and living room. A staircase swings out in the three-level house to allow access to each room. Walls are decorated with decals depicting picture frames, clocks and books. The house is made of plastic with some metal pieces for the hinges.
My First Dollhouse is a smaller dollhouse and features bright colors on its plastic molding. The house is open on both sides to offer easy access and features three stories and built-in stairs. The house comes with a table, chairs and toilet seat.
The Magical Welcome Dollhouse features 8 rooms in a fold-out design that can be set up different ways. The house is full of decals and decorations that come straight from the Dora the Explorer cartoon. The house is also interactive, with multiple sounds featuring the voices of Dora, Boots and Diego.
Considerations
All of the dollhouses come with enough to get kids started, but Fisher-Price also offers a full line of accessories for the houses. The Loving Family Dollhouse accessories include multiple furniture sets, family members and other decorations for every room. Extra furniture and characters can be purchased for My First Dollhouse and most of the cast from Dora the Explorer can be purchased for the Magical Welcome Dollhouse. These accessories also mix and match well among all of the houses.
Function
These dollhouses are the perfect toy for a young girl. My First Dollhouse is catered to 2-year-olds, offering bulkier pieces that children cannot choke on and bright colors to keep them entertained. History
Fisher-Price was founded in 1930, and since then it has produced a large variety of dollhouses. Originally all of the materials were made out of wood, but changes in production led to colorful plastic pieces. Dollhouses were created for Fisher-Price's popular Little People figures and other collections. A lot of these houses can be found on auction websites such as eBay.
