How to Reroot Doll Hair

If the hair of your doll has been tangled or otherwise damaged with time, or if you wish to give your doll a new look, it is possible to change the doll’s hair by rerooting it. With a few tools and a little time, this is possible to do on your own. Just about any doll can be customized so that it doesn’t have to be stuck with the look given to it in the factory. Remember, it may take some time and patience, but when you are done, your doll will have a fresh new look and a new head of hair.

Instructions

    • 1

Acquire the tools and hair required to reroot your doll's hair. Tools can be found in any convenience or hardware store. Doll hair can be purchased at Dollyhair.com or at Allaboutdolls.com.

    • 2

Remove the head of the doll from the body. Using a scissor, cut the hair off the head near the scalp. Then, using a pair of tweezers or a crochet needle, remove the remaining hair roots from inside the head.

    • 3

Thread a few strands of hair through the eye of the curved needle. Push the tip of the needle into the hole and push it in until it comes out through the bottom of the head.

    • 4

Remove the needle from the hair. Use a scissor to cut the small piece of hair around the needle if necessary. Tie the end of the hair into a knot, so that it is secured and will not slip back through the top of the head. You may need some glue to secure it to the underside of the scalp.

    • 5

Repeat steps 2 to 4 until you have threaded hair through each hole on the entire head.

    • 6

Reattach the head of the doll to the body. You can the style the hair according to how you wish it to look.
