How to Make a Remote-Controlled Robot Out of Recycled Material

The future is now, and nothing is trendier than going green with crafts. Even high-tech hobbies and crafts such as building robots can be accomplished with recycled products, a little creativity and trial-and-error tweaking. Though most radio-controlled robotics supplies can be found around the average household, you may need to invest in an R.C. car chassis and remote. Choose a chassis built for stability and not speed. The chassis selection will also help keep a tall robot upright.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Use a collection of small boxes and tubes to design the body of your robot. Glue the boxes together. The majority of the weight should be in the bottom of the bot to add to the stability of the finished robot and to keep the top half from crushing in on the bottom half. Creativity is instrumental to creating a dynamic look. Paint it a solid color, or psychedelic it up with a combination of whatever paints you have in the garage.

    • 2

Cut out claws, fangs, a Mohawk hair piece and other finishing touches from the construction paper. Glue the pieces in place. Glue the google eyes on as a finishing touch.

    • 3

Remove the body of the R.C. car from the chassis. Cut a hole in the bottom of the body of the robot to install antenna wire, or run the wire up the back of the robot on the outside.

    • 4

Attach the robot body to the chassis by attaching a hook-and-loop fastener to the bottom of the robot and to the top of the chassis. By using a hook-and-loop fastener, you can easily replace the bot with a new one whenever you wish.
