How to Make a Stove Out of a Plastic Bin for Children

A child's play kitchen is often a bulky item that takes up a lot of precious space in a playroom or bedroom. If you're short on space, but have a child who likes to pretend to cook, try making a small toy stove from a plastic bin that doubles as storage for toy food and cooking utensils.

Things You'll Need

  • Medium-sized clear plastic storage bin with lid
  • Acrylic paints in gray, red and black
  • Paintbrushes
  • 2 milk jug tops
  • Shellac

Instructions

    • 1

Paint two 6-inch diameter circles side by side on the bottom of a rectangular, clear plastic storage bin. Choose a bin with a flat bottom. Allow the paint to dry.

    • 2

Paint a red spiral on each of the gray circles. The spiral resembles a hot stove coil. Allow to dry.

    • 3

Paint two plastic milk caps black. Use epoxy glue to attach the milk caps to the bottom of the plastic bin, positioned as stove knobs. Spray the bottom of the bin with shellac to protect the paint. Allow to dry.
