How to Rotate Centers on the Rubik's Cube

After learning to solve a basic Rubik's cube, the next step is to learn some intriguing patterns. You can make one by simply rotating the centers. You cannot actually reorient the centers on a Rubik's cube without taking the cube apart. However, there is a sequence of moves that creates what is called the "six-dot pattern." The six-dot pattern looks as if the centers have switched places while the rest of the cube has remained intact.

Instructions

    • 1

Pick a face on the cube and use this as your front face for the rest of the steps.

    • 2

Rotate the right axis clockwise. Rotate the left axis counterclockwise.

    • 3

Rotate the front axis counterclockwise. Rotate the back axis clockwise.

    • 4

Rotate the top axis counterclockwise. Rotate the bottom axis clockwise.

    • 5

Rotate the right axis clockwise. Rotate the left axis counterclockwise. All of the centers should appear to have rotated one space counterclockwise.
