How to Solve a Rubik's Cube From the White Side

The Rubik's cube, named for its inventor Erno Rubik, is generally associated with the 1980s but was actually invented in the late 1970s. This challenging puzzle has been attempted by many but solved by few, earning it a reputation as an extremely frustrating toy. While there is more than one way to solve a Rubik's cube, the order in which you solve each face is important. Once you have the white face finished, this will give you the correct order. You can use any maneuvers you like to solve the remaining five faces, but still complete the colors in order.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn the cube so that the white face points downward. Twist the cube to position the blue and red corner pieces in their respective places. Hold the cube with the blue face pointing upward.

    • 2

Finish the middle row of blue squares next. Avoid moving faces with white pieces. You should be able to achieve the row of blue squares by twisting the faces laterally.

    • 3

Position the center pieces of the left and right blue face columns. Make sure the red face is facing you with the blue facing upward. Maneuver the cube so that the two bottom rows of the red face are filled in, as well as the top center red square.

    • 4

Check the corners of the Rubik's cube. Replace the bottom blue and red corner as well as the bottom blue and yellow corner, if necessary. Fill in the two bottom rows of the yellow face as well as the top center square.

    • 5

Solve the top four corners of the piece. Once you have one correct, place your thumb on it to remind yourself not to use it. Once your corners are in place, your cube is solved.
